Primadome™ Versatility

Apes enjoy climbing and resting in high places. The Primadome™ provides the opportunity to take advantage of more vertical space than traditional housing.

Cargo ropes, vertical logs, and any other piece of climbing structure may be added and attached directly to the dome itself.

The cupola provides an additional 4 feet of space where apes can rest on a hardwood deck.

Although Primadomes™ were originally created for small groups of chimpanzees, the versatility of the design allows for quick and easy expansion to house larger groups, or larger apes. For example, not only are adult orangutans much larger than chimpanzees, they also tend to spend more time climbing and resting above ground.

When the Center for Orangutan and Chimpanzee Conservation (FL.) wanted to build a Primadome for orangutans, BBCI modified the original design to provide additional height.

The addition can even be made after a Primadome™ is already in place. An existing dome can be lifted, and 2 to 8 foot panels can be installed. By adding this height, the Primadome™ can double in volume, yet the "footprint" stays the same.
